Nanci Griffith fue una cantante y compositora estadounidense nacida en Seguin, Texas, en 1953. Creció en Austin y comenzó a actuar en clubes de folk mientras trabajaba como maestra.

Publicó sus primeros discos en sellos independientes y desarrolló una escritura centrada en personajes, pequeñas localidades, viajes y memoria. Describió su mezcla de folk y country como folkabilly.
Once in a Very Blue Moon y The Last of the True Believers ampliaron su reconocimiento. Canciones suyas fueron grabadas por Kathy Mattea, Suzy Bogguss y otros artistas.
En Other Voices, Other Rooms rindió homenaje a compositores que habían influido en ella. Griffith continuó grabando y actuando hasta años antes de su muerte en Nashville en 2021.
